Volunteers from gaming company treat children and old folk to buffet lunch and donate cash
The early morning showers did not deter Da Ma Cai staff volunteers from reaching out to the needy at the Malaysia Lotus Charity Care Centre Association (MLCCCA) in Semenyih.
The team arrived at the centre armed with electrical appliances and daily necessities. They were greeted by the centre’s caretaker, Brother Michael Thomas, who gave the volunteers a tour of the place and introduces them to some of the residents.
The volunteers spent half a day engaging with the old folk and children before treating them to a buffet lunch.
In the spirit of giving, the volunteers also handed over vouchers worth RM4,500 to MLCCCA for the purchase of groceries and learning material for the children.
“Our place was burned down in February, last year, and we lost all essential items.
“It has been tough trying to keep the centre running, but thanks to many well-sihers, we are able to go on providing for the residents here.
“We really appreciate Da Ma Cai warm-hearted gesture,” said Brother Michael.
He said they were able to buy more learning materials for the children with the vouchers.
Speaking on Da Ma Cai’s Staff-In-The-Community programme, a volunteer said the team was happy to be part of the initiative as they were keen to help those in need.
MLCCCA started as an old folk’s home in 2001 with seven senior citizens. Now, it looks after 25 old folk aged above 50 and 26 children aged between one and 17 years.
The massive fire last year burned down part of the centre, forcing residents to evacuate the premises. It also destroyed most the donated food and daily necessities that were kept there.
The the moment, the centre is relying solely on the public’s contribution to meet its expenses.
