30 underprivileged children went on a shopping spree at a local hypermarket in celebration of Deepavali with Da Ma Cai.
In conjunction with the celebration of Deepavali, Da Ma Cai through its Staff-In-The-Community (SITC) program organized an all-expenses-paid shopping trip for the underprivileged youth from Sri Sai Orphanage in Klang.
“Every year, Da Ma Cai will allocate funds for social betterment, like uplifting the lives of the unfortunate and underprivileged children in our society. We want to spread the joy of celebration especially during festive season such as this. What can be more joyful than having someone pick up the tab after your shopping?” said a volunteer as he pushes a cart loaded with sundries for the home to the checkout counter.
When asked, 11-year-old Logaraj beams with joy as he carries the items that he has chosen for himself to the checkout counter agrees wholeheartedly “I’m so happy to have these new cloths.”
As the children picks up items they wished to get from the hypermarket, 2 caretakers from Sri Sai Orphanage picked up clothes, shoes, stationaries and other items for another 15 children that was not able to participate in the outing on the day. An additional RM3,000 cash vouchers was also handed to Rameswary Rahvee, founder of Sri Sai, to purchase food items and other daily necessities for the home.
Currently located in Klang’s Bandar Botanic, Rameswary says that the orphanage has moved from one location to another since she started Sri Sai Orphanage 7 years ago in 1999. This is because as the numbers of occupants grew, bigger living quarters are needed. Despite the challenges in running the orphanage, she still maintains her dedication to caring and providing for the children that now call Sri Sai their home. “This is my calling,” said Rameswary. “It is challenging but at the same time, it is rewarding, spiritually. Of course any donations from the public will help to sustain the home further.”
“It is admirable of her to dedicate herself to such a noble cause,” said one of the volunteer staff from Da Ma Cai, as she helps prepare the sumptuous lunch for the underprivileged youth. “We try to do our bit towards the making of a better society. Every good deeds count, however small it might seems.”
