Sikh Gurdwara Grateful For Timely Contribution - Da Ma Cai Brings Vasakhi Goodwill

Kuala Lumpur, 5 April 2013

Vasakhi, an ancient harvest festival, celebrates the birth of the Sikh community, collectively known as the Khalsa and also represents the start of the New Year. It is one of the most significant holidays in the Sikh calendar and Gurdwara Sahib Kampung Pandan Settlement at Kampung Pandan will be celebrating this important festive.

The Sikh faith celebrates kindness and charitable acts by human beings, with the belief that good deeds bring people closer to divinity. In this spirit, through its Staff-In-The-Community programme, Da Ma Cai organised a community project at the Gurdwara Sahib Kampung Pandan Settlement, Kuala Lumpur. The Gurdwara caters to 200 Sikh families within the area of Kampung Pandan and has long been in need of funds for renovation in order to maintain its basic facilities, such as the prayer hall where the priest and devotees congregate for prayers and the kitchen with a common dining hall.

Da Ma Cai recently donated RM10,000 to the Gurdwara, where the funds were used to the restoration of the carpet in the prayer hall that were in need of repair.

“We are thankful for the Da Ma Cai’s generosity and thoughtful contribution, it is just in time for the coming Vasakhi celebration,” said Hardip Singh, Secretary of Gurdwara Sahib Kampung Pandan Settlement.

By organising this programme, Da Ma Cai is doing its part to promote the muhibbah culture of Malaysia, paying respect to one of the most celebrated holy days in the Sikh calendar. As part of this corporate social responsibility activity, a group of volunteers from Da Ma Cai recently visited the Gurdwara. Volunteers were treated to a sumptuous vegetarian dinner with delectable Punjabi delicacies, namely chapati with chickpeas curry, kheer (rice pudding) and vegetable and fruit salad, prepared by community members of the Gurdwara. The volunteers also had the opportunity to learn more about the Sikh way of life.
