It was a time of laughter and merriment for special students from Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Pahang Barat, Kampung Perting, Bentong, Pahang, who were recently treated to a special day organised by Da Ma Cai at Sunway Lagoon. The programme is part of Da Ma Cai’s Staff in the Community Project, a corporate social responsibility initiative that encourages volunteerism amongst its employees and giving back to society.
Thirty special students with various learning and physical disabilities spent the day participating in fun-filled activities together with volunteers from Da Ma Cai. The day started at 9.30a.m where the students and volunteers gathered at Surd Beach of Sunway Lagoon, getting to know each other during an icebreaking session while having their breakfast.
Beginning with a guided tour, the students were introduced to the wonders of the amazing and exotic animals from across the globe, via the Safari Train Ride at the Wildlife Park. This was followed by the animal feeding show at the Pet Village. It was also a great wild learning experience for the students as they get acquainted with the friendly wildlife, first hand during the up close and personal session where they also enjoyed the photo session with the exotic animals.
After the fully interactive yet educational animal-theme programme was over, the students gathered for lunch. The hall was filled with excited chatter as the students exchanged their experiences and laughed over the photos take with the animals. Da Ma Cai also presented essentials and goodies vouchers worth RM3,000 to the Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Pahang Barat to ease off the burden of the Centre.
Right after the sumptuous lunch, some chose to basked by the beach, some went on and hit the slides, while some get their adrenaline pumping with some rides at the amusement park. Most of them have a splashing good time at the interactive water playground. It was heartening for all Da Ma Cai volunteers to see the boundless energy displayed by these students.
The event drove home the key message of encouraging students with learning disabilities to give it their all and participate in the outdoor classroom activities. The support of the volunteers from Da Ma Cai served to ignite confidence in these students and motivated them to immerse themselves with knowledge. The volunteers were humbled by the experience, touched by the determination displayed by the students despite the hurdles they face.
